Wreck Fishing

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Here we will explain the basics of wreck fishing

What is wreck fishing? Wreck fishing is when you fish over sunken wrecks. The wrecks can be anything from boats to submarines that lay at depths from 70 to 300 feet on the seas bottom. The wrecks can be from the first / second world war or general lost at see boats. There size varies from 20 feet to over 250 feet long

Wrecks can be anything from just a mile offshore to 35 / 40 miles offshore, which can mean that it will take several hours steaming to get to the chosen wrecks

There are two ways of fishing wreck - ever by drifting over the wreck with the tide or at anchor. The style depends on the tides and depth that the wreck is at . The skipper will always let you now what type he will be fishing on booking of the boat

How do charter boat skippers know were these wrecks are? Well it can be a case of the skipper literally spends many years of trial and error to find them. Or there are lots of books that will list likely wrecking marks

Skippers also use the latest electronics to help them. If you ever look in side a boats cabin you will see an array of fish finders and GPS navigation aid

What type of fish will I catch?

The idea of wreck fishing is to go after the lager fish that hold up on the wrecks. Fish are drawn to wrecks because they offers a reef / rocky out crop like environments

This means that fish can hold up in the wrecks as they offer shelter from the tides and a source of food

Fish that are generally target when wreck fishing are

Pollock
Bass
Conger
Ling
Cod

Fish sizes vary but you can catch fish from just a few pounds in weight and up to over 100lb (conger)

Wreck fishing tackle

Quick tip - get proper wrecking booms of about 10 - 15 inches long as they keep the flowing trace away from your mainline

Pirks - These are lead made lures with a treble hook at the bottom of the pirk . You can use them in conjunction with muppets

Pirks - are worked by jigging them ( lifting the rod up and down )

Shads - Fish shaped lures that are worked by reeling in

Worms - Worm shaped lures that are worked by reeling in

Grubs - Often over looked but can be kill lures and are worked by reeling in

Quick tips

Vary the speed that you that you retrieve your lures and remember that the speed of the tide also effects the action of the lure

On the drop down keep you finger on you spool so that you control the speed of the decent. If you do not you will only end up with a birds nest (tangle)

When you are working your lures count how many turns up you get your fish. This will save time if they are being taken say 40 turns up as you can quickly go to that depth

Have a good supply of rigs made up as if you loose your rig on a wreck it can be quickly replaced ready for the next drift

Rods You will need a stand up boat rod such as a Penn Ugly stick with rods being 20lb test curve as begin the lighter work through to 50lb for the big conger and ling

Reels

The reels you will need to be using are multipliers. The reason for this is because they can handle the weight of bringing up fish from such depth. Also they carry a lot more line

Line There are two choices what type of line to use

Monofilament line This is the standard fishing line , which as the benefits of being able to stretch a little bit . As for your line strength this can vary from 20 to 50lb and more so if in doubt just ask your skipper for advice but as a guideline 25lb will handle most wrecking situations.

The down side to monofilament line is that of the diameter of the line which will get caught in the tidal flow causing the line to bow and will result is you having to use a heaver lead weight

If you are new to wrecking monofilament line is the best to go for

Braid fishing line

This is a very low diameter fishing line which gives you a much great contact with what is going on . Because of it lower diameter you will be able to use less weight to fish , which is a great bounce when pull fish from depths of a hundred feet or so

WARNING - Never use your hands to hold your line if it gets stuck on a wreck a you could loose your fingers. Let out plenty of line then rape your line round a piece of wood ect and then pull your line free. Skippers will always help you and have the correct piece of kit to get you free, if in doubt ask for help from the skipper

Lures

Lures are made from plastics and are design for their action in the water. Coming an a Variety of colours and even luminous (glow in low light conditions0

As the majority of fish you will be targeting when wreck fishing are predatory fish (fish that hunt and eat other fish) the most come form of fishing are with lures

The most common three are shads / grubs / pirks and worms

All of these are fished on a the rig below with the flowing trace of anything from 6 to 15 to 20 foot long (remember the skipper will help on best lengths).

Beginning Fly Fishing Tip: Choosing Your First Fly Rod, Reel And Fly Line

Choosing your first fly rod and reel is very important. You need to have a balanced fly-fishing outfit that will match the type and size of your fish. For example, the fly rod and line need to be the same weight, a #5 weight fly rod and a #5 weight fly line. The weight and length of the fly rod will be printed on the rod just above the handle, it might read: 9'-5 weight or 108-5 (108 inches for a 5 weight). The weight of the line will be on the fly line box, a 5-weight could be shown as: WF-5-F, which would be a (Weight Forward), (#5 weight), (Floating fly line). The weight numbers of the fly rod and fly line will go up or down depending on the type and size of flies, fish, and types of waters that the angler is fishing.

(A Fly Fishing Tip) You can "code" mark one end of the fly line with black waterproof marking pen. For example, if you have a 5-weight line just make 5 short marks around the fly line _ _ _ _ _ . If you have a weight 7 make one long line and two shorts ____ _ _ and so on. On Weight Forward lines mark the "reel end" if the fly line so you don't get confused which end of the line goes on the fly line backing.

The common weight range is #3 thru #12. A 10-weight fly rod and line will cast large salt-water flies but is much too heavy for casting small trout flies. A #5 weight balanced outfit will work nicely for a #14 trout fly but will not cast a 3/0 tarpon fly. Purchase a good quality brand name fly reel to match your fly rod and line so everything is balanced. I would also suggest opting for a good quality weight forward (WF) dry fly line, it will last you for years. Also have the sales clerk put the fly line and approximately 50 yards of 20 lb. fly line backing on the fly reel for you.
Some sporting goods stores or fly shops may offer a fly-fishing starter package; rod, reel and fly line. This may be a way to go but first, shop around.

The next question, what should I pay for my starter outfit? Good question, but remember you get what you pay for, and you owe it to yourself to have the best you can afford. In fly-fishing, quality equipment will reward you in the years ahead. Ask the sales clerks for information about the fly rods they carry, also ask to cast the different brands and sizes of rods. Get other people's opinions be sure to look at all the popular brands, and make your decision on what feels good to you. Finally, flyfishing is a never-ending learning experience, so enjoy.

Ogeechee Outdoors Float Fishing the Ocean Part 2

Here is the second part of the float fishing off the rocks video. This is more fishing than setting up as the first part was. There are some tips and tricks still inthis video to help you fish. Even though we filmed this at the ocean in souther California it still applies to bream, panfish, and other float fishing endeavors you may undertake. Adjust your float size, hook size, and bait to match your quarry. ALWAYS BE AWARE OF THE OCEAN!!! Dont turn your back onthe ocean or get unattentive. Occasionally a large wave will come. A guy was fishing next to me tin a lounge chair and wasnt paying attection. The water at the bottom washed back very far and I told him "BIG ONE COMING" and let the bail loose and ran backward. He sat there as the wave washed over. He lost all his tackle, his chair, and was soaked. If you fish near the rocks put your gear back behind you in a safe manner that it will not get washed away if a big wave comes. Use care. Several people have drowned in this area that I am fishing.

On top of all this, some species are protected and you cannot fish for them at all. Fishing Organizations usually can tell you what types of fish are popular in your area.

Fishing organizations are not for only the rich people; far from it, in fact. Fishing clubs are for all people. whether you go fishing almost every day or just occasionally on the weekends, you will be able to reap the benefits of belonging to fishing clubs. You will learn about different species and any new goings on with your local fisheries, so you will always be informed. Fishing clubs are for anyone who like fishing.

Fishing Bedchairs - Don't Buy a Cheap One!

When I first got serious about carp fishing and had spent a couple of long night sessions cursing my camping chair, I invested in a cheap bedchair, forking out around sixty quid. The first time I used it, it was bliss compared to the chair, and I was well pleased. Trouble is, it lasted all of three trips before it started falling apart. One of the frame joints started loosening and a couple of hinges got a bit floppy. Finally I managed to bend the frame out of shape on a particularly uneven bank. Result: dead bedchair.

But by then of course I knew I wanted another bedchair - there was no way I was going back to sitting upright in a camping chair. A mate raved about his Nash bedchair, so I did a bit of research on the carp forums and ended up going with a Nash Indulgence. I spent a bit extra (already learnt my lesson the hard way) and got the X-Strength Wideboy - you can guess what that added to the normal Indulgence model.

That was a year ago, and I have never looked back. In fact, it's such a relief every time I lie down on it I would have paid twice the money for it. Not only is it comfortable, it has removable covers for easy cleaning, the frame is indestructible and all the joints and hinges are still in perfect condition. Nash knows their stuff, so if you want a bedchair that's going to last, and let you sigh with relief when you lie down, rather than curse, look no further than a Nash bedchair.

JRC bedchairs also have a great reputation for comfort and durability. Whereas Nash bedchairs have a four leg system, JRC bedchairs have three. This is a common feature of the cheaper bedchairs on the market, but in the case of JRC bedchairs, it's more to do with weight. The first time I tried a JRC, I was skeptical, but I have to admit, those three legs do a good job on their own. I'm a big bloke and I feel safer and more sturdy with a four leg bedchair, but the JRC definitely has a weight advantage over a Nash. The extra leg increases weight by a kilogram or thereabouts, so this is something to consider.

In conclusion, I can't recommend Nash bedchairs enough - well worth what you pay for them. JRC bedchairs are also excellent. Just don't buy a cheap one - it ain't worth the bother!

Fish Finder

Imagine sitting outside on your fishing boat out tookest you whip a gadget is cool beep just bought from the Internet and after a device that you said there is a school of fish some 3 meters or so away from you. Now, how cool is that possible? It 's almost like an ultrasound of the sea or lake, which tells you exactly where the fish are.

But of course this is nothing new, since many companies have developed their ownultrasound-like fish finding gadgets a long time ago. But Maptech's new i3 module is the first of its kind. It's the first ever touch screen, hi-resolution 3D Fishfinger. Yes, you can literally see the kind of fish that's swimming around under your boat, in super clear images and in real time.

The i3 Touch Screen command on the fishing gadget can help you navigate the floor of the lake or sea with a radar, combine it with satellite communication and a weather report too.

Monofilament fishing lines

There's absolutely nothing worse than to have a fish on the hook and have the line snap! Well, no more snapping of fishing line with the latest development in monofilament fishing lines. Monofilament fishing lines come in a wide range of colors, sizes, thickness and strength. Although it's stronger than some of the other more conventional fishing lines, they are cheaper. Monofilament fishing lines comes with special coating that keeps them from snapping easily. The only thing is that they don't stretch as good as other types of fishing lines but they make up for it with their bulk and strength.

Monofilament fishing lines are also quite transparent over the water and hold knots pretty well.

Fashion is always cool too

Sometimes, cool has nothing to do with technology. It's got more to do with the brain and 'creativity'. If your husband, brother, or father is a fishing fanatic, you can always get them fashionable fishing gear with extra pockets to place their scissors and hooks. Perhaps the water-proof raincoat with fluorescent streak for night fishing, perhaps. And how about the water-proof watch? That'll work perfectly. And how about an X-LOOP flash mirror polarized lens? Sunglasses for baking in the sun and raincoat for fishing in the rain are exceptionally cool gears we cannot ignore.

Let's take the sunglasses as an example. The sunglasses not only remove the glare and improve the quality of what you see with your naked eye, you see the same scene in deep colors and contrasts. These sunglasses are developed specifically for fishing enthusiasts.

Trout Fishing Tips, Tricks, & Techniques to Help You Catch More Trout

Over the past 25 years, spent trout fishing from coast to coast, I've learned some valuable tips, tricks, and techniques that have resulted in many trout being caught. In this article I will reveal some of these tips, tricks, and techniques so that you can implement them into your trout fishing repertoire. I know that you will find them every bit as valuable as I do.

The first thing to keep in mind when it comes to trout fishing is that the more time that you can spend on the water, the better. Nothing will help your trout catching abilities like practicing your craft. Everyone says that patience is integral to fishing (and they're right), but practice is every bit as valuable as patience to being a successful fisherman. The bottom line is that the more time you can spend on the water, the better your angling skills will become, and the more fish you will catch.

Let's start with your fishing line. When fishing for trout a great trick is to use fishing line that's as light as possible. I personally prefer four pound test monofilament, and six pound test is passable in most trout fishing situations. I like to spool my reel with Stren clear blue monofilament so that the line is visible to me, yet undetectable to the trout. The bottom line is that trout live in cool, clear water and spook easily, so the lighter your line, the more bites you will get.

The next trout fishing trick is to use small fishing hooks. A great technique is to use gang hooks, which are two small hooks tied in tandem. These hooks allow you to present bait (especially worms) in a totally natural manner. This makes a HUGE difference in the number of bites that you receive. The "gang hook" trout fishing technique is deadly once mastered.

If you truly want to catch more trout one of the best tips I have is to make sure that you're on the water at the best time. What should I do? There are certain times of the day, week, month, trout and more active than others. You know when the best times for trout, attention to the weather and moon, and plan your fishing trip accordingly by. This is simply one of the easiest trout fishing tips to implement in your fishing repertoire. Once you know the simple rules, you can ensure that you arethe water fishing when the trout are the most active.

These trout fishing tips, tricks, and techniques will help you catch more trout as soon as they are learned and practiced, so I suggest you get out there and start putting one or all of them into action. You won't be disappointed, I promise you. Remember, the more time that you can spend on the water fishing for trout the better.

Fish Shui

Stress is a big thing in our lives today. Whether it's at home from the family, bill worries or at the office with deadlines and office frictions. How can we help combat these stresses and live happier stress free lives?

An aquarium offers a calming distraction with some mental stimulation that can help to calm the mind, not to mention add a splash of colour along with calming sights and sounds. An aquarium in your home or office can have positive effects on many levels.

According to Feng shui experts water is a basic element, a beneficial and needed one in the home or office. In combination with fish which symbolise prosperity in many life areas. The word for fish in chinese "yu" also means success, indicating in feng shui that keeping fish attracts success to ones self.
These fish to attain ones wish of success and act as a stress buster must be kept in a clean and clear environment. The internal balance of life in the aquarium will affect the surrounding space and bring balance to it. An aquarium with life, beauty and flow will bring these properties into your outer world.
Goldfish are very important fish in feng shui. These fish in chinese mythology are descended from water dragons which makes them creators of good luck and attract positive outcomes in any enterprises you may wish to start.

As an example, a round (which symbolises wholeness) shaped water container with goldfish in it would be ideal to place at the entrance of any business premises or new house. Another good feng shui fish is the arrowana (for large tanks only) that are known as dragon fish. These fish are available in gold, silver, red, green and black these fish are endangered in the wild and can only certified, captive bred individuals are available these are expensive, but a excellent status symbol and bringer of luck, if you can afford the high price.

Numbers and colours of fish are also relevant to bringing different properties according to feng shui experts. The number nine symbolises the centre or heart and brings health, so nine fish for example is a good number for bringing prosperity and health into your home or business, if more space is available in the tank then multiples of 9 are good. Three is another good number symbolising creativity, so three fish will maximise the creativity of those around them. Gold coloured fish symbolise energy and good fortune while black fish symbolise protection and will absorb bad energy. A ratio of one black fish and two gold would be the most ideal combination.

As well as fish tanks, ponds are also relevant when taking into consideration number and colour of fish.
Also wood compliments the elements of water greatly as water symbolises old age and wood, birth and this combination can be very beneficial so a wooden cabinet or wooden ornament for your tank, or decking for your pond is an excellent way to incorporate both wood and water together.

In feng shui colours can also have great effect so decorating your aquarium in the your chosen colour to bring the results you want.
Blue; is a calming colour and can accentuate an area for contemplation or meditation like a library or study area.
Green; symbolises hope, vitality and a long life. Also lush growth vegetation and annual rebirth are great for family areas.
Red; means truth and virtue and also wards off evil and is life affirming bringing luck live glory power happiness. Good for the on show areas of ones home.
Purple; similar to red, and in combination with red and gold will bring wealth. Has an association with royalty
White; purity in a moral and spiritual sense and will maximise the childrens area and creativity zones
Black; is a great colour for protection and will absorb any negative energy around.
Pink; as a combination of red and white it's good for relationships and romance.
Yellow; symbolises authority and rank meaning tolerance and acceptance, honesty and trust will bring out the best in the centre or heart of your home.
Gold is great for attracting wealth and prosperity into your life so another good colour for the heart of your home.

An office aquarium needs to be in a prominent position for best results in busting free of those stress levels, along with a multitude of other additional benefits depending on how you set your tank up and where you choose to put it. Having an aquarium in your home or office space can bring all kinds of benefits into your lives, wealth, happiness and prosperity are just a few of them.

Fishing Tips - For The Live Bait Angler

It seems to me that almost anyone who spends time on the water fishing, is always interested in getting tips to help them catch more fish. In this article I'm going to reveal some great fishing tips that are especially pertinent to the live bait angler. These tips will work for anyone who uses live bait while fishing, and some of these tips are exceptionally good for those of you who fish with live worms.

It seems to me that Many fishermen believe that will be used as long as live bait, there's nothing more complicated than putting a hook through it. This is not necessarily true. Fishing with live bait can be quite technical, and even this simple use of stripes in this article are to increase your success rate. When I use the term "success", I refer specifically to bite on price, because obviously without remorse, do not even have the opportunity to catch fish.

We begin withJust a little '. Your hands. This is correct your hands. Most species have a very sensitive sense of smell and can smell odors with unnatural ease. And what do you think happens when the fish stinks location unnatural? Are much less likely to bite. So if you're a fisherman with live bait is always a good idea to make sure that your hands are from Any unnatural odors (such as nicotine or petrol, for example, free). A good practice is to grab a handful of grass or earth, every hour or so, and rubit into your hands. This will eliminate any unnatural odors that may be on your hands. This tip is especially true for larger more experienced fish.

When using live bait, and this is especially true for live worms, it's always a good idea to use gang hooks to present those worms. Gang hooks are simply a pair of small hooks tied in tandem that allow you to present live bait in a completely natural manner. This is a big advantage to the angler. We want our bait to look as natural as possible when fishing, and gang hooks are the best way to accomplish a natural presentation.

How about having an efficient way of carrying said bait? This is a great tip, because the more efficient we can be as anglers, the more time we spend with our lines in the water (where the fish are), rather than out of the water while we search for our bait and such. The most efficient way of carrying live bait (especially live worms) is a bait bag. A bait bag is simply a small pouch this depends on the fisherman, and your live bait while fishing. This is a live-bait fisherman is always literally at your fingertips for incitement.

The last suggestion is to always only mother nature to your advantage when fishing. This is much easier than it seems. Mother nature, are specific to time and the moon. Get to know, as time and the moon affect fishing will do much to increase the catch rate canany single thing. This stuff isn't rocket science either. I'm referring specifically to fishing when the fish are the most active, and the weather and moon hold the key to this lock.

Begin using these simple tips, and you will start being a much more successful angler. How am I so sure of this? Because I use all of these tips and know for a fact that they work.

As time begins to warm and the rivers and streams begin the spring rains and run-off resignation, fishers begin many think that the serious trout fishing a few. There are few things I enjoy more than standing in the water flowing, tried to bite a rainbow trout lure. For me, this is probably the best thing I can do, obviously with my clothes. There are a few tips that I learned over the years, which isIncrease in catches of rainbow trout fishing, while your. All these references are focused on stream fishing for rainbow trout in the waters of a river or, albeit with some minor modifications, be used for good trout fishing lakes for rainbow.

Watch Your Shadow - Pay attention to your shadow and where the votes. want to fish casts a shadow over the hole, or run is a sure way to get a bite. Make sure there are a shadowFisheries or go fishing. This is especially true when fishing for rainbow trout.

Present your live bait, of course - the more natural your bait looks the more you will catch trout. This is true with all live bait, especially worms. This means that just to create a worm threaded on a hook or what I would call a "worm ball" is simply not effective. Way to present live worms, the best thing is through the use of gang hooks.Gang hooks are fairly easy to tie, or you can buy, it makes no difference what is important that you start with them for fishing for rainbow trout. The bottom line is that your live bait as naturally as possible.

be efficient - if you want to capture the rainbow trout as efficiently as possible is. This means that you can not take any trout, without the line in the water more time to spend with your lineThe water, the better. Busy things as a bait bag is a great way to spend more time fishing and less time to run. With a bait bag to hang your bait is right there at hand, which is incredibly efficient. Remember, you can not take anything without your line in water.

Pay attention to your hands - Many fishermen do not pay attention to smells on your hands. Rainbow trout have a keen sense of smell and odors on your handsTransfer to your bait, be it live bait to attract or. If you smoke, for example, that transfers to your stink bait and your catch rate. A good practice is to grab a handful of grass or dirt and rub your hands before fishing and every time you dealt with a foreign substance. This will help neutralize any odor "that could be on your hands.

Start treating one or all of these hands and rainbow trout fishing success to improve.Rainbow trout fishing is an incredibly pleasant experience and if once you get the hang out, you will be addicted! What better way to experience a day in nature, to spend some catching rainbow trout Nice. And like I just escaped the past were more like you and the ground clip eighteen inches you will find that Rainbow trout fishing clothes are very fun as possible while wearing them!

Florida Lake George Fishing Report

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Florida's Lake George large mouth fishing is rated and reported as another top largemouth lake that is nationally known. This article will concentrate on lake George. We will list 12 Area's on or around the lake that have been known to hold largemouth. You can also visit the Florida Fish and wildlife conservation commission webpage and click on Interactive maps to get more detailed information.

Lake George is one of the premier largemouth bass fishing lakes in central Florida. It is the second largest lake in the state (46,000 acres), and is located 18 miles northwest of Deland and 29 miles east of Ocala.

The following Lake George fishing reported areas have been identified by the Florida Fish and wildlife as holding good populations of largemouth bass

Area #1 Black Point with one of the deeper drop-offs in this area, offers good fishing for a variety of species throughout the year. Fish a Carolina- or Texas-rigged plastic worm down the open-water drop from 3 to 15 feet for largemouth year-round. Crankbaits will entice striped bass in the cooler months. Small wild shiners or medium domestic shiners will entice big bass strikes, and they'll catch stripers and large catfish, too. Starting with the first full moon in April, use live worms or crickets to catch bluegill throughout summer.

Area #2 Back of Muddy Cove offers springtime largemouth bass fishing. It's a good bedding area and excellent for sight fishing. Fish spinnerbaits and buzzbaits early and late in the day. Best fishing is often after heavy rains or when the tide has peaked and starts to fall. This holds true for most shallow water. Deeper water on the flat invites more fish.

Area #3 Between Hog Island and Saunders Bass often frequent the cut between Hog Island and Saunders Cove. Fish weedless floating worm rigs, soft plastic jerk baits or weedless spoons. The southwest corner of the island is known for its good fishing in the spring and fall.

Area #4 East side of Hog Island On the east side of Hog Island, with its harder bottom and eelgrass, is a feeding flat that yields bass year- around, especially in spawning season. Use weedless lures and work them through the grass or topwaters over the grass. Big bass will come out of the thick greenery for a wild shiner deployed along the edge of the eelgrass line or in the small coves surrounded by bulrushes.

Area #5 Georgetown Fish the many docks and pilings along the Georgetown shoreline for largemouth summer and fall. Drift a floating crankbait into the wooden structure; when it drifts close to the pier, begin your retrieve. Cast and retrieve your lures past the structure from different directions until you can establish a strike pattern. Work the broken-down piers. Piers are often interspersed with fields of little lily pads, called dollar bonnets. Fish them with soft plastic jerk baits, swimming worms, and weedless, ribbon-tailed jigs. Shiners are powerful fish-getters; the challenge is to keep the bait near the structure. Here's a local secret: purposefully snag your line on a small stick or surface vegetation to keep the shiner in the best spot to catch a trophy. Otherwise, the shiner will swim away from danger and you'll have to keep casting it closer to the structure.

Area #6 Lake George Point offers single and schooling bass to those throwing vibration lures and stickbaits near the weedline. Stripers also move through this area in cooler months and often will unexpectedly strike a crankbait intended for a bass. If you locate stripers, cast Carolina-rigged plastic worms and let the soft plastic undulate naturally in the bottom current. If you notice the line move, pay attention. When it tightens, strike hard. A fish is moving off with your worm. Switch to topwater chuggers if the stripers start crashing the surface. Stripers love shiners, too.

Area #7 Drayton Island The Drayton Island docks and pilings, and the boat trails that lead to them, hold bass in early spring. Weedless spoons and plastic worms with light, 1/8-ounce slip sinkers are best.

Area #8 This area adjacent to a marsh offers relatively deep water just off the grass. Bass move into the grass to spawn and out to the grassline in late spring, where a weedless plastic worm will trigger strikes. Use small, dark-colored plastic worms and, so as not to ruin its built-in action, use the smallest sinker that takes the plastic to the desired depth. Beetle Spins also produce. This is a good bedding area for bluegills April through June. Live bait anglers favor earthworms, grass shrimp, or crickets fished close to the bottom under a float.

Area #9 A sharp drop-off to 10 feet, just 30 feet from the shoreline, makes the weedline in this area especially productive for largemouth bass from late spring through late fall. A Carolina-rig will locate fish. Alternately, cast vibrating plugs or small crankbaits for best results. Fish are often suspended here.

Area #10 Work plastic worms or jigs with grubs down the sloping drop-off for bass. Try different colors until you find the one that gets the strikes. Solid blue or blue-tailed worms are effective. Grape-colored worms with green glitter work well, as do Tequila Sunrise, Red Shad, Green Pumpkin and June Bug.

Area #11 A hard, sand bottom and relatively deep water near shore make this a great spring and summer bass spot. The Carolina plastic worm rig is a lake tradition.. Fish lures that allow you to adjust your depth - spinnerbaits and Rat-L-Traps. This area and others like it, hold schooling bass at different times of the year.

Area #12 Kinsley Point on the south end of Drayton Island has good bass fishing year-round. Fish the visible and submerged pilings off the point for largemouth and stripers. Anglers using artificials favor crankbaits; live bait anglers score big on shiners. Plastic worms in dark colors work well in the wooden structure and along the grassline that wraps the point. The direction of the flow of water will tell you which way to cast. Start by bringing the lure back with the current but also try casting cross-current. One boat fishing technique is to drift with the current, stern first, using the electric motor to slow the drift. Cast to the sides of the boat, toward the direction of current, retrieving the lure with the current.

The salmon runs at two key times of the year, and draws thousands of fishermen and outdoor enthusiasts each year. The annual return of Sockeye Salmon to the Kenai area also brings together a popular seasonal event.

Florida Sport Fishing Charters

Game fishing is a popular recreational activity in the United States and Canada. Several states of these countries have excellent facilities for fishing. Florida is a state, which is blessed by nature with a number of lakes and a wide variety of fish in almost all of the lakes. The abundance of lakes and fishes is the most vital aspect for fishing. One can buy every one of the fishing equipment. But each item will render useless if there is no fish in the lake. That is why Florida has become an ideal location for spending a fishing vacation. Florida sport fishing charters are extremely popular with vacationers.

Fishing vacations are ideal when the whole family is involved in the tour. Fishing locations have something for everybody. Surroundings of most of the lakes offer picture postcard greenery. Even those who are not interested in fishing will be able to enjoy the beauty and wilderness of the surroundings of the lake. In Florida, there are plenty of lakes that offer an infinite wealth of fish as well as a serene natural habitat around it. Various kinds of fish such as sailfish, dolphin, marlin, and tuna exist in these waters. These specialties make Florida sport fishing charters very attractive and unique.

There are several lakes around the Florida Gulf Coast and Florida Sun Coast. Some of the prominent freshwater lakes in Florida are Lake Okeechobee, Lake George, Lake Kissimmee, and Orange Lake. Almost all these lakes have an abundance of fish. The chances of returning without any fish are almost zero. That is the reason why Florida is known as the luckiest state for fishing. So, Florida Sport Fishing Charters are ideal for both inexperienced anglers and veterans.

There are several travel agencies that provide Florida sport fishing charters. Some of the agencies are so cocksure about getting a catch that they offer money back guarantee if the visitor could not catch fish. Also, if the visitors are inexperienced in fishing, they will provide guides to help you in fishing. But if you are an experienced angler, you can freely indulge in your favorite pastime without any external influence. The chartered boat will have a captain and several crewmembers to ensure your safety. The captains of the chartered vessels are highly experienced in sailing these waters and most of them know the locations in the lake where fish population is high like the back of their hands.

Another reason why Florida fishing charters have become one of the top items among the vacationers is that the photo-taking opportunity it gives. Since you are dead sure of capturing fish, you can be certain about the photograph of that proud moment of holding your catch. Also, the lake and the surroundings offer beautiful background for memorable family photos.

Giant Squid Fishing in San Diego Daylight

Here's a great video of kids catching a 35-40 lb Humboldt Squid off the coast of La Jolla, CA in March 2007. The squid, normally caught at night, were caught in the morning in the deep waters off San Diego at a depth of about 200 ft. They were caught on white/glow in the dark iron with treble hooks. On this day, we released 9 squid, and kept 3 to eat. Dear PETA-LOVING FREAKS: We fish for food, period. What we do not eat, we return to the sea. After we brought this particular squid on board, it was slapped as an experiment to see if it changed colors (which it did). Many species of squids are equipped with photophores, bioluminescent light organs that function as camouflage, luring prey, reproduction, communication, or other yet undiscovered uses. One of which is a biology experiment for kids. Although not in this video, the head and tentacles were then cut off and the body was filleted and it was eaten that night. Get over it. Also, if you're thinking that these squid are going to be extinct (you're most likely a lifetime PETA member) you're wrong. Read any of the recent articles about the huge quantity of Humboldt squid off the California coast and how they are threatening sport fishing for tuna etc. Check out any of the recent articles on the overpopulation of Giant Humboldt Squid in California and get over it!

Bluegill Flies For Fly Fishing

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Bluegill really aren't that fussy when it comes to flies, however, there are some flies that they just can't refuse. One of these is the inch worm, especially in early spring. If you see these green devils dropping out of the trees on your home water, get out what some call the green weenie and whip it in the water. When fishing with inch worm imitations, you can even plop them on and off the surface, right on top of bluegill to get them really worked up, because real inch worms hop on and off the water when they are blowing around in the wind on their silk. Oh yeah, when it is extremely windy, and there are moths, inch worms, and ants, getting blown all over god's green earth, get on the water and get ready for top water heaven with flies.

Bluegill, especially, will throw caution to the wind when there is windy chop on the water and insects blowing in like mad. Any ant imitation will do well, but don't go too small, because bluegill really have a strong suck off the surface, and they will take a size 26 ant right into the back of their throat. Keep the sizes around 18 for the ants, depending on how big the gills are that you're catching.

Micro streamers, small muddlers minnows, and micky finns work very well for bluegill in sizes 10,12,14, and 16. Woolly buggers in the same sizes always get bluegill worked up. In deeper waters use some sinking line to get down to the bigger fish laying just off a shallow flat.

Dry fly fishing for bluegills is often quite amazing, as there really needs to be no hatch at all for bluegills to attack something on the surface. Try a Royal coachman as a generic dry in sizes 12,14, and 16. If there are white moths in your area, a light cahill will do the trick in a size 12 or 14. Chernobol ants, crickets, and grasshoppers work well too, but stay with the smaller sizes because sometimes these flies are over tied with way too much material: some people like to make them like an abrams tank and the bluegills have quite a time trying to get their jaws around it.

Trout Fishing Tips - Why Trout Bite

In this article I'm going to outline some of the reasons why trout bite and some trout fishing tips to make you a more successful angler. At the end of the day, trout fishing tips can be like bellybuttons, everyone seems to have one. These trout fishing tips have been learned through more than 50 years of combined trout fishing experience, so they provide real, proven results for the trout fisherman.

First off, what are some of the reasons why trout bite? Let's discuss some of those reasons first.

What The Trout See - this is one of the main reasons why trout bite. They bite because what they see looks like food. This is why having your offering looks as natural as possible to the trout. Obviously the more your bait/lure looks like the food the trout normally eats, the better off you be. What the trout see is a reason why trout bite.

What The Trout Smell - this could be the main reason why trout bite. Trout have a very sensitive sense of smell, and if they detect unnatural scents, they are much less apt to bite. This is why paying attention to any scents that might be on your hands, such as gasoline residue from filling up your car, is of the utmost importance. Any unnatural scents on your bait/lure will cost you bites. This is especially true for larger, more experienced trout.

What The Trout "Feel" - Trout (actually all fish) have a lateral line running down the length of their body. Through this lateral line the trout can "feel" changes in the barometric pressure (which means changes in the weather). They bite or don't bite depending on what things like the weather are doing. Thus, they bite depending on how they "feel". Other things like the moon have a dramatic impact on why trout bite.

Now we will discuss the actual trout fishing tips that will make you a more successful trout angler. Once I figured out the reasons why trout bite, I was able to come up with the below tips. One or all of them will benefit you more than you now realize.

Free Your Hands Of Unnatural Scents - This is easily accomplished by taking a handful of dirt and rubbing it into your hands. This will effectively eliminate any unnatural scents on your hands. The bottom line is that you want to make sure that your bait and/or lure is free from unnatural scents.

Use Reasonable Fishing Line - A great trout fishing tip is to use fishing line that's as light as possible. Many anglers use line that's much too heavy when trout fishing. In my experience six-pound test should be the absolute heaviest line that should be employed when trout fishing. I personally use four-pound test and find it to be perfectly adequate. Just remember, no line heavier than six pound test should be employed when trout fishing.

Use Gang Hooks - When it comes to trout fishing tips this tip might be the most important. Gang hooks allow you to present your bait (especially worms) in the most natural manner possible. This makes a very big difference when trout fishing, especially with larger more experienced trout. Gang hooks are simply two small hooks tied back to back, which allow you to present your bait in a completely natural manner.
